CISCO WRVS4400N gateway problem

Hi,

please help me. I have a connection problem with WRVS4400N  router.

The router is connect to internet via fibre-net with HAG "Pirelli" FASTWEB.

The hag give my router this parameter:

IP: 192.168.1.130

MASK: 255.255.255.0

GATEWAY: 192.168.1.254

The lan of my router is set on:
192.160.2.0

and the cisco router is in Gateway Mode (egual problem with router mode).

The default routing table of cisco is:

Destination lan IP

MASKGATEWAY

192.168.2.0

255.255.255.0

0.0.0.0
192.168.1.0

255.255.255.0

0.0.0.0
239.0.0.0

255.255.255.0

0.0.0.0
0.0.0.0

255.255.255.0

192.168.1.254

but if I do a traceroute 8.8.8.8 or other public ip,

this not work, and give me only 2 step:

step 1: 192.168.2.1 (ip of cisco router)

step 2: 192.168.1.254 (gateway)

step 3 to infinite: *

The cisco router works only if default gateway is set on IP 192.168.x.1 (I have tried with another router between HAG and cisco Router with class of net 192.168.101.x and gateway of this router is 192.168.101.1)

tanks a lot for your help

Flaviano

flaviano,

I'm sorry, I am not real clear on what the problem is.

You are saying that if the ISP default gateway was 192.168.1.1 instead of 192.168.1.254 it would work?

Did you test with the other router set to 192.168.101.254 to prove this?

- Marty

Matry,

yes, the test with the other router proves that.

If the other router is set to 192.168.101.1, the cisco router work.

If the other touter set to 192.168.101.254 the cisco router not work.

In both of the cases the default routing table is ok.

0.0.0.0 => 192.168.101.1 in first case

0.0.0.0 => 192.168.101.254 in second case.

This behavior is really strange, and I do not know what else I can try.

you have any suggestions?

tks

Flaviano

flaviano,

I have not seen this before with any Cisco router. If you purchased it within the last year you should open a support case:

www.cisco.com/go/sbsc

The only other suggestion I can think of is to leave the other router in place and turn the firewall off to allow all traffic to the WRVS4400N.

- Marty

Also I do not ever such a thing. I will try to follow your suggestion and open a support.

thanks

Flaviano
