How to report bug: RV016 Rev 3. Hangs on second vpn connection

How can I report a bug so it is logged as a "CDETS case" (http://tools.cisco.com/Support/BugToolKit) and a engineer is actually looking at it?

Device:

----------

PID VID : RV016 V03

Firmware Version : v4.2.1.02 (Jan 18 2012 14:10:55)

irmware MD5 Checksum : a9817f2dbdcbd6a5c109eaa21b1c3545

Working Mode: Gateway (ipv4 only)

Problem A (QuickVPN)

---------------

Symptoms:

Quickvpn nr 1 works (you can access a share)

Quickvpn nr 2 (same of other user) connects but "the remote gateway it not responding"

...

Quickvpn nr 1 also gets "the remote gateway it not responding"

When you try to login (https management) to the device you get the login page, but when submitting the password it keeps on validating but no further.

The lan behind the router can still access the internet.

...

I can no longer connect the VPN (not even after a day)

Similar Problem B (IPSEC VPN):

---------------------------

First IPSec (group tunnel) connects -> works (you can access a share)

Second IPSec (group tunnel) connects and works (you can access a share) for a sec then connection loss

...

First connection also lost

When you try to login (https management) to the device you get the login  page, but when submitting the password it keeps on validating but no  further.

The lan behind the router can still access the internet.

...

I can no longer connect the VPN (not even after a day)

Problem C:

----------------

login the management of the device (https)

Do Problem A of B

...

You can still access various pages, logs, but you cannot reset the device. No respose at all, the machine just keeps running.

Workaround:

------------------

Unplug the device

Question:

--------------

Is there a way to reboot the device without unplugging (I can no longer use https management)? eg. A ssh loging, snmp reboot. (Only to automate the workaround, not as a permanent fix)

More info

-------------

I can always provide more info of the setup, logs, ... in order to reproduce the issue.

I hope someone at cisco can look into it, so the RV016 vpn can live up to its expectations. In my point of view this is a basic functionality of a VPN router with a fairly simple setup, threfore I think a lockup is a major issue.

Got it working.

Solution in my case

-----------------------------

disable unused wan 2 port

disable unused DMZ port

IPV6 disabled ( it was stil ipv4/ipv6)

removed all vpn client settings (keeping only ipsec settings)

use shrew soft VPN client

reboot

... works as inteded

Conclusion

----------------

- I have no idea why it now works (should still be looked at by cisco, still a major issue)

- It might not even be a problem with the settings at all. I might have changed VPN settings when a tunnel was active, I might have changed settings without rebooting the router, then try to connect. Perhaps this way you can get the device in a bad "hanging" state. Anyway I can reproduce it systematically. If this really is the problem, cisco can throw a warning when saving VPN settings saying "you need to reboot to apply the new settings".

My advice: change VPN settings, reboot, then make VPN connections.

Final remark

------------------

These professional cisco devices are not cheap. I have selected the RV016 and gladly paid more for a mature and stable device. Obviously I was wrong and I am especially unhappy you cannot log a "major bug" without support contract.

I am not asking for support! I am helping to make a better product buy logging a bug! (Actually Cisco should pay me for the testing and debugging)

Jan,

If you have a ticket number opened at SBSC, you should be able to report the steps of reproducing the issue to the level 2 support, which will be able to open a CDETS case.
