Router RVS4000 connectec on a WAG160N bridged mode only

Hi everyone,

I'm trying to connect my WAG160N as a ADSL modem (disable the router function) and connect a real router (RVS4000)

So, i put my WAG160N on birdged mode only, disable the DHCP

on my RVS4000, i did configure my PPPOE access (user and password), change the IP adress 192.168.0.2

configure the DHCP ...

and try to connect ... no way !

i tryed to connect the RVS4000 and the WAG160N either with cross cable or a direct cable ... same result.

I can get access to the RVS4000 192.168.0.2 and get access to the configuration menu

but cannot get acess to my WAG160N 192.168.0.1 (strange ... don't have explanation for that) even a simple ping !

when i try to test the connection on my RVS4000 (status) ... it seems that my connection is up ...

but i cannot get acess to internet ...

looking for some good advises...

thanks

Hervé

Router RVS4000 connectec on a WAG160N bridged mode only

herve,

First i would make sure the WAG160N is in bridge mode ("Bridge Mode Only") by plugging my pc directly into WAG and making sure i pull the public ip address(WRITE DOWN). Next you want to plug your pc directly into RVS4000 and configure WAN Setting and clone your pc mac address. Next make sure all pervious settings inside your pc is deleted. now plug RVS4000 into WAG and verify that you pull same address as your Pc which should be the same or close since were cloning the mac address.

Also make sure you change the DEFAULT local ip address of the RVS4000 to something other than 192.168.1.1 since WAG should also have statically 192.1681.1.  Once you're connected trying ping out to RVS4000's Gateway and then something on the Internet. After you have completed this and you're still having problem give us a call @ 1-866-606-1866 and open a support case with the next available engineer.

Hope this helps

Router RVS4000 connectec on a WAG160N bridged mode only

hi everyone !

When my WAG160N was configured 192.168.1.1 and my RVS4000 on  192.168.1.2 ... it doesn't work. (i red that i had to configurate like  this ...)

so i decided to put my RVS 4000 on 192.168.1.1 ... and it works !

i don't really know why ...

Thanks by the way for your help

Hervé

ps : still looking for some explaination why it wasn't working when my RVS4000 was 192.168.1.2 configurate ...

Herve,

If the WAG is 192.168.1.1 and RVS4000 is 192.168.1.1 this will casue conflicts. yes it might work but wil cause problems later. Why you're first set up didn't work we would need to know alot more information than what you posted. It's all about how things are connected together and next configurations of those devices. It's best to have WAG in bridge mode given out an public ip address to the RVS4000 and from their let the RVS4000 do all routing/natting of your traffic.

Router RVS4000 connectec on a WAG160N bridged mode only

Jasbryan,

i'm happy it sounds strange to you also ... i'm not alone !

1°/ my wag160N was configurated 192.168.1.1

i tryed as you mentionned in a previous message to configurate it in "bridged mode only" and connect my PC directly. I got a valid internet connection.

2°/ i did connect a direct cable from the wag160N (port1) to the RVS4000 (internet connector).

i did connect my pc with a direct cable on one of the port of the rvs4000

- When i put configuration of the wag160n to 192.168.1.2, it seems that i got a connection till the RVS4000

cause it gave me a wan IP, DNS1, DNS 2, on status, it give me the type of connection (RFC 2516 PPPoE) and "Up" to interface.

- I reload factory defaults before my test ...

- I would like to make some print screen but the system doesn't let me.

- do you have ideas to test the WAG160N ... ?

thanks for your help

HI,

If the WAG is in bridge mode i would make sure you change the RVS4000 on a different subnet other than 192.168.1.1 so make local lan address 192.168.5.1... the two address RVS and WAG could be conflicting since their hard coded with 192.168.1.1... you can make some print screens

i generally try and check recent post through out the day but some times just get to busy so if you need resolution guickly and still having trouble you can give the Cisco Small Business Support Center a call @ 1-866-606-1866 and open a support case.
