RV042 not blocking forbidden domains

Hello all!

I recently tried to use the RV042 to block domains. It is not working, I can still access all the domains that I have blocked.

My firmware is current so other than that I am not sure what the problem could be. The user guide is very vague, no specific instructions on how to use the feature, just to use it.

Is there a specific format that the domains have to be entered in? I did a copy/paste of the pages I wanted to block, yet they all still appear as I have done nothing.

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks!

CK

Re: RV042 not blocking forbidden domains

I assume you are using the optional Protectlink Gateway feature.  Page 14 of the Admin Guide explains how this is configured and setup.

Hope this helps,

Thank you for replying so quickly! :)

But no, I am not using that. I am using the Content Filter in the router itself. (Firewall->Content Filter->Forbidden Domains). I have the "Block Forbidden Domains" box checked, and I have three web addresses in the box below. But it's still not working?

Thank you!

Re: RV042 not blocking forbidden domains

What are you putting in for the forbidden domain???

www.espn.com

For that address, just enter "espn"...  Remove the www, and .com.  See if that helps.

Thank you,

Re: RV042 not blocking forbidden domains

I will try that and see if it works. However, I am looking only to block certain pages on some sites. Is this possible?

I have searched and searched for further documentation on this and I can't find anything so any specific information on how this feature works would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

Re: RV042 not blocking forbidden domains

Update:

Using just the words did work. The domain is now blocked completely.

However, please let me know if there is a way to only block certain pages. Or, if the Trend Micro product is the way to go with accomplishing this.

Thank you!

No, you can only block domains, like somebogussite.com and you cannot block SSL sites, which I personally think is a serious defect in the design.  All a porn site has to do to get around Cisco's filter technology is buy a $29.95 SSL cert from GoDaddy.  Nice.
