RV082 Skype issue

Hello,

I just want to know can we seperate skype traffic on cisco RV-082 router or fix to 1 WAN connection to balance load? Our 80% load on router is from Skype and due to dual WAN we are facing issues in Skype voice calls.

You can map the skype protocols to one wan or the other.  If you put entries into both wans, skype will remain bound to whichever wan it started on (from what I remember about protocol binding).

How?  Skype tunnels through HTTP, so you can't simply map a port to a particular WAN.  In fact this is my problem with just about all the load balancing features.  Almost everything of significance now tunnels through HTTP making it impossible to control where the traffic is really sent.

And http is just another protocol.  Put an entry in for each WAN to bind http requests to that WAN.  Whatever WAN Skype starts out on is where it will stay.

I've run across the same problems you've described with other things I run via http and https, like my server's control panel.  Once it detects another IP, it automatically kicks me off.  Once I bind the protocols to each WAN for my server, the session stays put once established.

That doesn't solve my problem and I doubt it solves the problem for the OP.  I have one WAN that is a satellite link.  Satellite links pose challenges to latency-sensistive applications as well as being metered connections.  So I have the challenge of both keeping the latency sensitive traffic off of it a well as staying under the monthly traffic limits.  The tools built in to the RV016 don't really seem up to the task, but I keep wondering if I am mising something.

Are you using load-balancing or failover?  Also, have you set the bandwidth limits for each WAN?

There's a lot that these routers are supposed to do, and binding traffic to one wan should be pretty easy.  I've done it too many times without a hiccup.
