RV110W VPN Configuration - Please Help

First, I want to thank you for any advice as I have never set up a VPN before.

I am looking for help on setting up a VPN connection to a remote device. I need to be able to connect from a laptop that could be in my office, at home, or a hotel room in a random city in North America. The RV110W will have a static IP and have the device behind it I need to connect to. What I need to know, is do I also need to take a RV110W with me when I travel to connect through a VPN to this device? Or can it be configured so I can connect from anywhere?

Hi Bill,

My name is Mehdi from Cisco Technical Support.

RV110W support client VPN IPsec and PPTP and you can connect from anywhere using QVPN client or PPTP client based on Windows.

Before evrything please check if you have latest firmware if not here is the link to download the latest firmware : http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=283879340&softwareid=282487380&release=1.2.0.10&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

Latest firmware is 1.2.0.10

Here is the steps :

Solution 1 : configure PPTP

- Under VPN --> VPN Clients --> enable PPTP server

IP Address for PPTP Server: IP address of the PPTP server for example if the router has IP address 192.168.1.1 we can have 192.168.1.200 (should be in the same subnet as the local network and out of DHCP server)

- IP Address for PPTP Clients: Range of the IP address will give to the clients I beleive maximun is 5 IP's

- Under VPN --> VPN Clients --> VPN Client setting table

- Click Add row and add the username and password, check box enable and choose PPTP

- Click on Save Button

Now on the PC we need to configure the client, here is example :

http://www.strongvpn.com/setup_windows_7_pptp.shtml

Solution 2 :

To use QVPN IPsec we need to download and install the client QVPN from this link :

http://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=283879340&softwareid=282465795&release=1.4.2.1&relind=AVAILABLE&rellifecycle=&reltype=latest

- On the router under VPN --> VPN Client --> add Row and make the same steps but instead of PPTP choose QVPN

- Also under firewall enable remote management on port 443

now on the client he will ask you for username and password for client which already configured on the router and server , the server is the public IP of the router WAN interface

I hope I was clear for those steps to configure VPN, please rate and click on answered to help other cisco client to get benefit from it.

Mehdi,

Thank you for your instructions. I apologize I have been out unexpectedly but I have followed your instructions and they work perfectly for the Quick VPN client.

Thank you.
