Hi,

We've had this router for a year now and have had these problems from the start. I see from googling that we are not alone in experiencing these problems..

WAN connection drops on all clients frequently and error log looks like this:

Does anyone know if there has been any solution to this?

Kjetil,

What type of internet access do you have? I have seen this type of problem when a cable modem was failing slowly. After the modem was replaced the router did not lose access again.

Are you on the latest firmware?

- Marty

Hi Marty,

Thanks for answering.

We have a DSL connection that should be very stable.

I am running on firmware 1.0.4.17, I believe this is the latest?

I have also tried to disable «Block Fragmented packets» and set MTU to 1492, as suggested in other forum posts.

As I mentioned, I have seen multiple posts with the same problems with this router model.

When the problem occures and I log in to the router and enter Dashboard, the router seems to hang a little, but then the connection goes up again pretty fast.

The Connection status in the router is always «Connected».

Now, I also have a problem with wireless clients not getting assigned IP from DHCP.

I found this post, describing the same problem:

Is this router buggy? It's been long time since the latest firmware update.

S. Kjetil,

Have your ISP run diagnostics on that line. There may be a problem with the modem or lines to ISP.

As Marc mentioned, the latest is 1.0.5.8. I highly recommend that you upgrade, this is the same firmware that I use on my RV220W and it is very stable.

I have also tried to disable «Block Fragmented packets» and set MTU to 1492, as suggested in other forum posts.

1492 is always recommended with DSL. You should also run an MTU test to make sure that 1492 is not too high in your case: http://www.dslreports.com/faq/5793

I am not aware of any widespread issues with the RV220W. Mine provides DHCP without any issues and with the latest firmware I have had no issues at all. (With 1.0.4.17 the router rebooted on it's own sometimes)

If the issues persist, please open a case with support. It is likely that you will be asked to reset the router to factory defaults and reconfigure it manually so make a backup of your configuration. Also, please upgrade the firmware before you contact support.

Hi,

I have just upgraded firmware and will be monitoring closely. I ran the mtu-test and found that 1464 was the optimum, added 28 and came to 1492, so should I use 1492 or does the router add the extra 28 bytes?

After upgrade, I still can't aquire IP address on my wireless devices. Any clue here?

This worked fine for a long time and suddenly stopped working a couple of weeks ago, I beleive.

I don't have any issues with my DHCP server that I can see..

regards

Kjetil

Kjetil,

Set the router WAN port to 1492.

What is the DHCP server?

Do you have more than one VLAN?

DHCP works fine on wired connections?

- Marty

Hi,

Set the router WAN port to 1492.

     -     Ok.

What is the DHCP server?

     - DHCP is running on our single domain controller. Windows Server 2012.

Do you have more than one VLAN?

      -     No

DHCP works fine on wired connections?

     - Yes.

- Kjetil

Kjetil,

I recommend that you capture packets showing a failed DHCP transaction and open a case with support for troubleshooting. I was not aware of any issues with the RV220W passing DHCP so it is possible that the development team is not aware either. If you open a case and there is a bug found, they will try to fix it in a future firmware. If the development team never hears about the issue they will never try to fix it.
