Why my WRVS4400N (rel.2.0.0.8) doesn't lock Internet access with Internet Access Policy?

Hi,

I bought this device to control Internet Access for my LAN, but I can lock Internet access with MAC of PC but with single IP or IP range I can't lock it. Moreover if I put in the list "Website Blocking by URL" a site (www.facebook.com for example) or I put the word "facebook " in the list  "Website Blocking by Keyword" nothing happens. I can access always to the site that I want to lock! I tried with "Deny" or "Allow" in "Access Restriction" field without positive response. I can enter always in site that I want to lock!!
Is this a problem of WRVS4400N or I did a wrong operation?
Have somebody used this setting? Do it works fine?

Many thanks in advance for your help.

Edoardo

Hi my name is Eric Moyers. I am a network Support Engineer in the Small Business Support Center.

The issue you are having is a common one, what many people do not realize is that social networks like Facebook and Twitter use multiple IP Addresses. So blocking www,facebook.com actually does not help. You have to block the IP Range that Facebook has. The last range I knew of was:

Facebook:    66.220.144.1 ~ 66.220.159.254

and just for information:

Twitter:        128.121.146.1 ~ 128.242.245.254

Try blocking on those IP ranges and let me know how that works.
