SA540 Error Messages

Can someone explain these messages?  They are occuring right now, but we can't reboot the router for several weeks (until the next maintenance window).

SA540 Error Messages

Duplicate post.

Re: SA540 Error Messages

Nope.  Please see my response to your reply in the other thread.  This thread pertains to a completely different set of log errors.  Thus the need for two threads.

Re: SA540 Error Messages

Hello Curtis,

I have tried very hard to find information on what this could be caused by. So far I can only tell you that something is trying to be added to memory and is failing. Below is some information I was able to find, but please keep in mind this may or may NOT be relevant to the problem.

CVM- c virtural machine

http://developers.sun.com/mobility/configurations/questions/vmdiff/

ipfwd- ip protocol redirection tool (used for PPTP)

http://cscott.net/Projects/IPfwd/

Are you have any problems on the SA540 currently? If it is causing issues, I would say to give us a call at the SBSC.

Re: SA540 Error Messages

To my knowledge we are not experiencing any issues.  I got a little worried last night as I got paged (we monitor the syslogs), because I have not seen these errors before.  No one has complained this morning, but this issue may get worse.  I don't know.  Would you like for me to email you a debug file?  I can't remember the URL that you type in IE to get the SA540 to generate the file, but I'd be willing to email it directly to you.

Re: SA540 Error Messages

If you would like, I can take a look over a debug file. Feel free to private message me.

Please keep looking into these issue (it might need to be escalated to a higher level engineer).

In the mean time I will get you the debug file ASAP.

PM sent with a link to the debug file.  Please keep in mind that there is probably confidential information in it!

Let me know if you need our config.

Thanks for sending me the information to review. I have just now completed looking over everything. Unfortunately after reviewing all this information, I have determined that I do not know what is causing the error message.

My recommendation at this point would be to call our support center and refer to this post.

That's unfortunate.  The errors become more and more rampant so I got the approvals to reboot the device at 10:00 PM CST.

Thanks for your help.

I have good news.  I rebooted the device @ 10:00 PM CST and the syslogs are relatively clean.  Just the regular Bonjour messages that we discussed in the other post.

The bad news is that we can't recreate the issue.  It sucks because I had quite a bit of tracing turned on... all the way down to "warning".  I would have expected the debug logs to provide you guys with a bit more insight.  Should I try to get approvals to turn the tracing all the way down to "debug"?  How much overhead would that put on the SA540?  We had to turn off IPS because it stressed the CPU too much, thus our download speeds from our ISP was capped around ~22Mbps whereas we now get a constant 30Mbps.

Please advise and feel free to share the debug logs I provided to the developers/engineers.

I will tell you that I was requested to perform some security scans on the device a day or so before the errors began.  I can provide you with the online firewall scan websites that I used if you think that would help.

The errors didn' look all that nasty, but they were so rampant by the end of the day that it was pretty easy to get the approval to reboot the device.

Glad to see that the issue is resolved at least. The information you provided was very enlightening for me but sadly I simply could not understand it. My skills in networking far surpass my skills in software. I will try to get more information on this, but the best way for this to happen is to have a case open that we can track.

My best guess is that a process tried to launch and could not be added to memory. If you find that the messages start again after doing a security scan then it may have something to do with the scan. If you like, I can also check the firewall scan on one of our SA500s.

I will call and open a ticket.  Can I just reference this thread?

Don't worry about reproducing the error.  I ran free port, trojan, etc scans from at least a dozen websites!  It would take you way too long to do the work, and I wouldn't be able to provide you with the exact order of each scan into to realistically reproduce the issue (if the scans were even the route cause of the issue which I doubt).

Thank you for all of your help thus far.
