RIPv2 is an interior gateway protocol, that is, a protocol designed for a network within the same location. RIPv2 is also a distance vector, that is, it determines the route to a destination based on the next hop. RIPv2 supports variable length subnet mask (VLSM) which allows networks with different subnet mask to interact between each other. The SG500X Series Stackable Switches support RIPv2, which makes the switch act as a layer 3 router. The following articles explain the proper configuration of RIPv2 on the SG500X Series Stackable Switches.
