Hello,everyone

I am dealing with SG300-10 switch. I am trying to assign a ip address for a new VLAN ID. But I can't ping it after I finished.

First, I added a new VLAN ID(100)

setting option.bmp

Then I assigned a port to that vlan

setting option.bmp

Finally, I added a ip address for that vlan id

setting option.bmp

After that, I tried to ping 192.168.10.24, but it was not working.

Is there anything wrong I did?

Hi Jiahing, you're giving too many omissions. Everything about the VLAN's, IP addresses, gateways, physical connection and firewalls matter.

This is how to configure everything to get basic connectivity.

Host A connects to port 1 on VLAN 1.

Host A IP address will be 192.168.1.10 with mask 255.255.255.0 with gateway 192.168.1.254

Host B connects to port 2 on VLAN 200

Host B IP address will be 192.168.2.10 with mask 255.255.255.0 with gateway 192.168.2.254

The switch configuration would be as follow-

config t

vlan database

vlan 200

int vlan 1

ip address 192.168.1.254 /24

int vlan 200

ip address 192.168.2.254 /24

int gi0/2

switchport trunk native vlan 200

Hi Jiang, if there is no active connection in VLAN 100 it will not work. Conversely, if no active connection in VLAN 1 it also will not work.

Hi Tom. I am sure there is an active connection in VLAN 100.

Alright, 2 scenarios.

Scenario 1-

Host A is connecting to the switch on VLAN 1 with IP address 192.168.1.10 255.255.255.0 with gateway 192.168.1.254. While there is an active connection on VLAN 100, Host A should be able to pnig 192.168.1.254 AND 192.168.10.254

Scenario 2-

Hostt B is connecting to the swith on VLAN 100 with IP address 192.168.10.10 255.255.255.0 with gateway 192.168.10.254. Host B should be able to ping the VLAN 100 SVI at 192.168.10.254.

I am not sure what's wrong with it. I assign port1 to vlan 1 with ip address 192.168.1.254. Then I connect laptop A to port1. I also assign port2 to vlan 200 with ip address 192.168.2.254.  Also I connect laptop B to port2. I am in layer3 mode now.

Port1 is in Trunk mode and port 2 is in General mode. I can ping 192.168.1.254 on laptop A. But I can't ping 192.168.2.254 on laptop B.
