cannot update bootloader via tftp, why?????

I'm using tftpd64 to try to update the bootcode, I keep getting an  error from the switch that the tftp server is unreachable and no  explanation why this is happening...

I'm using my computer's wired IP and the full  filename, sx300_boot-13506.rfb, and I have the server interface as my  computer's wired IP and tftp bound to my computer's wired IP, and no  security.

I keep getting the error that the tftp server is unreachable:

Bytes Transferred:	0
Status:	Copy failed
Error Message:	TFTP server unreachable

The RAM memory log says things like:

How do I get tftp working properly??

P.S. The switch has a different subnet than the tftp server, the switch is 172.19.0.xxx and the tftp is 172.16.0.xxx, does that make a difference??

Turn off your Windows (and 3rd party) firewalls.

I did not think of this...I looked at Windows Firewall and it says it's managed by Symantec Endpoint Protection.

I am trying to figure out how not to have SEP get in the way...

I am Chetan Savade from Symantec Technical Support Team.

You install Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) with Network Threat Protection  (NTP) on a computer that runs Windows 7 or later. When you open the Windows  Firewall control panel, notice that it displays the following message: "These  settings are being managed by vendor application Symantec Endpoint  Protection." If you click Advanced Settings, the Windows  firewall appears to be on. However, rules within the Windows firewall are not  actually applied.

This behavior differs from Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, which displays  the Windows Firewall as explicitly off.

Can the tftp server computer reach the switch? Make sure it can or the switch probably cannot reach it.

tftp computer is my notebook it can indeed touch the switch...

Thomas, the TFTPD64 works perfectly well so long as the server interface is the same IP address of your computer and the file is in the directory that the Current Directory of the TFTPD64 is.

If your transfer is failing it is because of your subnets, either due to poor routing configuration or improper set up of your computer.

To make things easier you should connect to the switch on the native VLAN and properly set the configuration then it should not have any problems.

I found this link where someone could not get tftp to work on a Win7 box:

I moved tftp32 to a WinXP box and it worked correctly.

Next to try is a Win2003 server via RDP. Should work...

I'm not gonna keep fussing with SEP and firewall and all...

I will try to remember to update this thread...
