Hi all,
I'm wondering what is the magic trick to access to this switches via console/serial port?
I have 3 SGE switches and i'm able to access via http and ssh, but this console thing just doesn't work on all 3 of them.
I have more "normal" cisco catalyst switches, and with same cables adapters putty what ever...everything is working perfectlly. So i guess the problem isn't in cables or laptop configs, I tried everything.
Some guy from cisco supporting company told me, it is only possible to access those sbs switches via console while switch is booting. I'm pretty sure thats not the case?
Tried to change speed 9600/115200 etc but still nothing.
Please help.

Hi Manas, the switch uses a 9 pin serial cable. It does not use a proprietary blue Cisco cable. If you're using an USB adapter to convert the 9 pin serial, ensure you have the adapter drivers installed otherwise the wire conversion won't work.
The consolue uses 115,200 baud with no flow control.
The switch is accessible via console any time (unless console access has been disabled.. but by default it is enabled).

Hi Tom,
Yes i know it's different cable, and I'm using laptop (Dell D630) with serial port, not USB to COM kinda adapter.
The cable is null modem clasic, it that ok?
Now tried with baud 115200 and no flow control, still no luck.
Thx

RS-232 (db9) female/female. It uses standarized pinout.

That's the one i'm using.
I think my predecessor somehow disabled console use.
Do you maybe now how to enable console again? CLI command please, not GUI.
Thx

Manas, you should be able to telnet to the switch over ethernet. From there you can enable the console access under the management options.

Tom,
under management options/console you can only change baud. But there is no enable/disable options.
Under web GUI, there are two profiles: Console only, default and non-editable. Other profile created which enables SSH. All three switches are configured on same way.
One more time...problem is console access, meaning I cant's access non of them via COM port. I know it is not hardware issue like cables ports etc...somehow I guess someone before me disabled console access on SGE switches.
I'm more into cisco catalyst products, so this is completely new and frustrating for me.
SGE switches are in L2 mode standalone not stacked.

Hi manas, you can factory default the switch if you feel there is a software restriction.

The speed is set by default to 115200 - I just confirmed that with my old box
