Effectiveness of the "storm-control broadcast" command

I have configured the storm-control command at a customers site as follow:

  • Storm-control broadcast level 30
  • Storm-controlaction shutdown

My understanding of the above congiguration, is that should the broadcast level go over 30% the port will be shut down.

Is my assumption correct and then if so, what might couse the action not to be completed.

Effectiveness of the "storm-control broadcast" command

30% is a very high value, that would be 30 Mbit on 100 Mbit port or 300 Mbit on Gigabit port. Did you see a storm but not have the port shutdown? If so, are you sure that the frames were broadcast? Otherwise storm control would not catch it. It could also have been unknown unicast traffic.

Do you have any recent feedback regarding your storm-control config?

I am about to configure it on our store switches but i am hesitating between level 5 and 10 (on 100Mb switchports)

Did you leave it at 30?

thanks,

Juan
