Help, On a network random computers cant connect?

I have a 24 port unmanaged switch connected to a router. There are 10 computers connected to the switch, however for some unknown reason two computers are always disconnected. The weird thing is, that it is any two random computers.

Ive checked the DHCP settings and it is not due to a lack of leases, furthermore when i set static addresses, i couldnt PING onto the internet, hence it is definitely a switch issues.

All the cables have been checked with a multimeter and are fine, furthermore the fact that at any time it could be two random computers show there is nothing wrong with the cables.

NIC and switch lights remain switched on.

Occaisionally some computers have slow networks.

You can proceed for steps:

- The number of PC is small and so you can check all ip address of every device.

ipconfig in MS-DOS prompt for windows, ifconfig in linux console.

Check for duplicate ip addresses.

- Check DHCP address pool, could be too small, and lease time.

- Check lan connectivity with PING between two or more hosts for a day.

- Try to change switch port.

Let me know results.

Regards.

Help, On a network random computers cant connect?

Hi Junaid,

Depends on switches, generally switches can not support all ports at a time. It just disable randomly any port. To slove this issue you can use two switches. I think this will solve your problem.

Thank you.
