For the next RVS4000 firmware, would it be possible to add a "mDNS Broadcast" checkbox to the Site-to-Site IPSec VPN Advanced setup?
The advanced setup already supports NetBIOS broadcasts, which essentially lets the remote network see MS Windows-based resources on the local network. Adding support for multicast DNS (aka, mDNS or Bonjour) would allow the remote network to see other types of resources from the local network, including printers and Mac products.
It sounds like a good idea, but as I am not a hardware engineer, I do not know how possible a firmware change to add this feature would be. I would think that the developers thought of that when designing this router so maybe it is a hardware limitation as to why it is not included already. Maybe someone else from Cisco can help clarify if the hardware is really the limiting factor, or maybe they didn't find a business need to turn this feature on.
