WAP321 Setup Issue - Can't find IP, Keep restarting, etc.

Hi,

Our office just got a new WAP321. We plugged the power cord and connected it to our server via Ethernet cable, but:

(1) the Power indicator light keeps going off about every 20 seconds and then comes on after a second. When it's off all three lights are off. This doesn't just happen the first few minutes when it's turned on -- it keeps like that all the time when it's plugged in and turned on.

(2) The WLAN indicator light is off all the time.

(3) The LAN indicator light is Amber and keeps flashing.

We tried to find it in our wireless list but it doesn't show up.

We tried to use ipconfig on MAC terminal:

op = BOOTREPLY

htype = 1

flags = 0

hlen = 6

hops = 0

xid = 538260419

secs = 0

ciaddr = 0.0.0.0

yiaddr = 10.0.0.113

siaddr = 0.0.0.0

giaddr = 0.0.0.0

chaddr = 3c:7:54:60:28:d

sname =

file =

options:

Options count is 10

dhcp_message_type (uint8): ACK 0x5

renewal_t1_time_value (uint32): 0x54600

rebinding_t2_time_value (uint32): 0x93a80

lease_time (uint32): 0xa8c00

server_identifier (ip): 10.0.0.15

subnet_mask (ip): 255.255.255.0

router (ip_mult): {10.0.0.1}

domain_name_server (ip_mult): {10.0.0.15}

domain_name (string): chengtsui.local

end (none):

When we put 10.0.0.15 in Safari it shows the welcome page of IIS7

Screen Shot 2013-07-24 at 4.14.50 PM.png

We tried to use Angry IP Scanner to scan the IP Range: 10.0.0.1-10.0.1.254, and none of the available IPs led us to WAP321's admin panel.

We also tried to scan 192.168.0.1 - 192.168.1.254 and no IP returned in that range.

Can anyone tell me how to set this thing up and make it work? Thanks!

Hello Beiyi,

I think it is a hardware issue. The flashing power LED means either your device is booting or a firmware upgrade is carried out. I suggest registering a case. Please follow the link below for contacts:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/support/tsd_cisco_worldwide_contacts.html

.

Also, is your WAP321 connected to a PoE switch and a power adapter. If yes, remove the power adapter and try again.

Thanks,

Vijay

Thank you Vijay!

My WAP321 is not connected to a PoE switch and a power adapter at the same time. If I remove the power adapter my WAP321 would just power off. If I remove the ethernet cable and leave the power adapter on, the WLAN/LAN indicator lights would both be off, and the Power indicator would still go off every 20 seconds and then back on after a second.

Guess it means we got a defective WAP321?

Thanks,

Beiyi

Hello Beiyi,

Yes. I think it is defective. Try calling TAC as I mentioned in the above post. They will be able to take care of you.

Thanks,

Vijay
