Connecting Brocade 5460 to Cisco Nexus5596UP

Hi,

I'm currenlty studying a SAN design solution for a customer of mine.
What we need to do is to attach some Brocade 5460 (switches embedded in some Hitachi Blade Chassis) to a couple of Nexus5596UP (both equipped with storage license).
More precisely, the customer has just bought 10 Hitachi Blade Chassis; each chassis holds 2 Brocade 5460.
For each chassis I'd like to:
- enable access gateway mode on both brocade switches
- attach 4 fiber-channel cables from the first brocade switch to the first nexus 5596up switch (the first two ports on nexus will be in access mode on vsan10, the other two will be in access mode on vsan20)
- attach 4 fiber-channel cables from the second brocade switch to the second nexus 5596up switch (the first two ports on nexus will be in access mode on vsan10, the other two will be in access mode on vsan20)
- on both brocade switches I think to use the port grouping feature to pin some host wwpn in vsan10 (flowing through the uplinks 1 and 2) and some other in vsan20 (flowing through the uplinks 3 and 4)

Finally, I also need to attach both nexus5596up to two different mds9148 (nexus5596up-1 to mds9148-1 and nexus5596up-2 to mds9148-2) in fabric mode using an 8-interface port-channel trunk to carry both the vsans (10 and 20).

Is the above configuration supported?
Do I need other licences on nx5596up than the "storage licence"?
Are there some best-practices documents for a configuration like this?

Thank you.
Regards,
Alberto

Ciao AlbertoThis has been

Ciao Alberto

This has been discussed before (see below), although you want to do additional things, like routing some Brocade ports of a switch to MDS;

Brocade doesn't support F-Port trunking/channeling, each link is dedicated to one VSAN only.

I have no experience with Brocade port grouping and pinning, but it is supported and seems to work

Zoning will be done on MDS
