MAC Bit error exceeded threshold

Hi All,

I am getting the following error on a brand new MDS 9124 and the port gets disabled.

Error Type : Warning

Error Description : MAC Bit error exceeded threshold [ITW]

DSAP : 0 (0x0)

UUID : 414 (0x19e)

Time : Thu Mar 5 07:35:56 2009

(Ticks: 49AF80DC jiffies)

Any suggestion pls..?

I would start with replacing the SFP and the cable. This is normally a physical issue like a damaged or incorrect fiber, faulty patch panel, or defective SFP.

I have seen this occur when a SM fibre was used with MM SFPs.

You might want to move the device on port 12 to another port and see if the problem moves with the device.

The port is logging ITW (invalid transmission words) this is a bit level error occurring with the data stream. At a pre-determined threshold, the port is shut down.
