In regards to software zoning, how is the Simple Name Server (SNS) updated? What security methods are used to prevent the updates to the name server?

I have to ask what SNS is. I can't find any reference to it in my training guides, etc. I always thought that fibre channel switches only had FCNS. Would you care to expand the question.

SNS is not the right acronym for fibre channel name server on MDS9000. The correct one is "FCNS" - Fibre Channel Name Server.
FCNS is updated by devices when they login to the fabric and register. It is independent of zone enforcement. FCNS does not enforce security directly. Zone Server interacts with FCSN to enforce software based security for the zoning configuration activated by the administrator. ZS also tells ACL Manager to program the linecard ACLs for hardware based security enforcement.
