Nexus 5596 and Qlogic 8150

I am having a problem with getting the Qlogic 8150 working in a windows 2008 R2 server. I have the SAN connectivity working but I am having problem with  the networking.

I have setup VLAN 666 as the data vlan

On the ethernet trunk I have setup

ethernet 1/17

switchport mode trunk

switchport trunk allowed vlan 666

spanning-tree port type edge trunk

This does not work but if I allow VLAN 1 on the trunk it works and I have full IP connectivity.

switchport trunk allowed vlan 666,1
Any ideas why adding VLAN 1 on the trunk makes everything work
Thanks

You set vlan 666 as the VlanID under the Qlogic adapter advanced properties, right?  Should be the last value in the scroll box.
