Are there any caveats to trunking two 9124s together?   Do the trunk ports have to be in VSAN1?

NO !

Please don't use VSAN 1 ! It's used for management.

Otherwise, there are a few caveats, nothing to do with trunking however

Availability of F Port Trunking and F Port Channels

Trunking F ports and trunking F port channels are not supported on the following MDS 9000 components:

DS-C9134-K9, Cisco MDS 9134 Multilayer Fabric Switch, if NPIV is enabled and the switch is used as the NPV core switch

DS-C9124-K9, Cisco MDS 9124 Multilayer Fabric Switch, if NPIV is enabled and the switch is used as the NPV core switch

Switch Note IVR is not supported on the Cisco MDS 9124 Fabric Switch

And hopefully you are aware of

Cisco announces the end-of-sale and end-of life dates for the Cisco MDS 9124 Multilayer Fabric Switch. The last day to order the affected product(s) is January 24, 2014.

First thanks for teh response.

I was aware of the IVR not being supported on 9124s and the impact to NPIV which we are not using.

I'd like to know if when I do ISL the ports on the switches, will there be an impact to other VSAN traffic when they are enabled?

What is the impact when the ports are isl'd to the existing switch ports?
