What is the difference between a 9216 and 9216A?

The description is the same -

DS-C9216-K9

MDS 9216 16-port semi-modular fabric switch (includes
16 1-Gbps/2-Gbps Fibre Channel ports, power supply, and
expansion slot—SFPs sold separately).

DS-C9216A-K9

MDS 9216A 16-port semi-modular fabric switch (includes
16 1-Gbps/2-Gbps Fibre Channel ports, power supply, and
expansion slot—SFPs sold separately).

Is it just a marketing thing?  Is it something like you can put a gen2 blade in 9216A and not a 9216 (I would belive that, I bricked a test 9216 by putting a gen2 48 port blade in it once.)

and why can you download 3.3.5 firmware for a DS-C9216A-K9 but not for a DS-C9216-K9. That model you can only download 3.3(4a)?

Also why is the DS-C9216-K9 in the list of supported hardware for 3.3.5.

I've had issues before with the software download site being some what cryptic and you end up having to look around by clicking all the links before you find what you're looking for so maybe this is just another case of that. I've installed 3.3.5 on my test DS-C9216-K9's and it installs fine, no issues but those switches are not doing all the things our production SAN fabric is doing so it's not a real world test to rat out a potential soiling of the bed sheets in the middle of the day scenario.

Turns out from a SAN-OS perspective there is no difference.

You are correct in that gen-2 modules are not supported in the 9216 but some are supported int he 9216a.  I believe that is the only difference.
