Combining Static and Dynamic VLAN Ports on a Single Switch

Is it possible on a single switch to have both static and dynamic VLAN's defined. By this I mean have some ports permanently assigned to certain VLAN's (eg. with the interface configuration command 'switchport access vlan <vlan id>' on a 2950), and some ports available for dynamic VLAN membership, ie. for 'hot-desking', where a station's MAC address is associated with a VLAN number within a VLAN Management Policy Server's VLAN database, so that whatever 'dynamic VLAN aware port' it connects to, it will join its own defined VLAN, whereas when connecting to a 'static VLAN aware port' it will join the VLAN assigned statically for that port.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi Friend,

There should not be any problem to have static vlans and dynamic vlans on same switch but port which is configured for dynamic vlans assignment cannot be configured for static vlans.

Also 2950 can only work as VMPS client and not as VLMS server.
