gusy please correct me if i am wrong......if we have a switch and we have multiple vlans created on it....and if we config mst all vlans will go by default into mst...or do we have to add them.....how many instances of mst can be done on a swicth.....secondly if we have for example 4 vlans 2,3,4,5 and they all are in one mst instance for example 3.....now we want that swicth A (for expale we have couple of swiytches) should be root for vlan 4....so if we add that mst instance all other vlans will have thaty same root bridge??? if its yes then we have limited options....thirdly whats the command to make root swicth in mst.....is it same as normal pvst like root primary and secondary.....or the other way is priority......whats the default prority in mst??? thanks for looking guys

Hi,

how many instances of mst can be done on a swicth

Depend on the switch model you are using.

If the number of VLAN in the network are more you could run less STP instance by grouping the VLAN.

And for ALL the VLAN in the mst instance there will be 1 Root you cannot have individual root for the Valn in 1 instace.

Router(config)# spanning-tree mst X root [primary | secondary]
