Port grouping

I was sent on a trouble-shooting call, that their network was unable to access the internet or any other outside resources, ie.. vpn, ect...

They have a Netgear ProSafe wireless VPN router FVG318 w/ 8 10/100 ports. And a Cisco 2950 switch to about 20 or so users and their server.

I had discovered on the cisco switch that ports 22 and 23 were in a port group.

When I removed those ports from the grouping they were able to use the internet again.

So I guess what I am asking here is why would the port grouping work for only a short amount of time. The grouping was set up as a Destination Grouping to the 8 port Netgear Router.

Use the Port Group Management to create Fast EtherChannel port groups that act as single logical ports for high-bandwidth connections between switches or switches and servers.
