How to configure WLAN IP on Edge95

We are trying to configure IP address for wireless lan card on Edge95,

but there is no IP address settings for WLAN in "The Network settings menus".

Is  "Control Panel > Network > LAN Settings > IP SETTINGS" common menu for both wired-lan and wireless lan?

If so, how can we switch the network we connect?

Should we unplug LAN cable and type "xConfiguration WLAN Enable: on" after assining IP address for wireless lan?

Then when we use wired-lan, should we plug LAN cable and type "xConfiguration WLAN Enable: pff" after assining IP address for wired-lan?

Hi, just to be clear. You have connected a Wireless compatible pcmcia card to the edge correct? There is no integrated wireless card as far as i know.

As Magnus mentioned already, no TANDBERG/Cisco codec has any built in wireless capabilites, nor did they ever.  However some MXP codecs included a PC Card slot with software wireless support.  As far as I know, this document lists the only compatible PC Cards that you can use with the codecs.

Thank you for your information.

As you mentioned, Edge95 doesn't have built in wireless capability, so we use PC card(PCMCIA) wireless card.

I questioned TAC also how to configure IP address for WLAN card.

The answer from TAC is as follows.

First, we have to configure all settings for WLAN(e.g. SSID, WEP)

Then configure IP address as DHCP on "Control Panel > Network > LAN Settings > IP SETTINGS".

  -IP address for wireless lan we can use on Edge95 is DHCP only

  -Edge95 can NOT have two IP addresses for wired LAN and wireless LAN at the same time, and we have to

   select which network(wired or wireless) we want to use.

Based on the information above, I assumed some cases that could happen, and questioned

whether Results are correct.
(However the dafault value of "xConfiguration WLAN  Enable:" is "ON",

I questioned about them just in case)

*Case1:
  -LAN cable is plugged to the codec
  -Wireless LAN card is inserted to the codec
  -IP assignment is selected as DHCP
  -xConfiguration WLAN  Enable: ON

  Result
  =>Wireless network would be chosen....................Absolutely correct (provided you don't have DHCP server in the network)

*Case2:
  -LAN cable is plugged to the codec
  -Wireless LAN card is inserted to the codec
  -IP assignment is selected as STATIC
  -xConfiguration WLAN  Enable: ON

  Result
  =>Wired network would be chosen.............................Absolutely correct

*Case3:
  -LAN cable is plugged to the codec
  -Wireless LAN card is inserted to the codec
  -IP assignment is selected as DHCP
  -xConfiguration WLAN  Enable: OFF

  Result
  =>Wired network would be chosen
   (IP address for wired LAN would be assigend by DHCP server)...................... Absolutely correct

*Case4:
  -LAN cable is plugged to the codec
  -Wireless LAN card is inserted to the codec
  -IP assignment is selected as STATIC
  -xConfiguration WLAN  Enable: OFF

  Result
  =>Wired network would be chosen...................................... Absolutely correct

Hello,

Just to add to Justins comment the MXP range only support the exact cards mentioned and these have not been manufactured (I believe) for quite a few years, so can you confirm the make and model of the card you are trying to use? 

As these cards have been very had to source I have in the past recommended ethernet to wireless bridge devices which will plug into the ethernet port of the MXP and then will conver to wireless.  There are many types of these devices available and they are easier to obtain than the specific PCMCIA cards.

I really understand that CISCO recommends us to use such bridge devices you mentioned.

But we (actually our customer) wanted to know how to configure wireless lan card on Edge95,

and we've got information how to do that from TAC.
