Interop between sony PCS-1 and MCU4501

We verified the interoperability between sony PCS-1 and MCU4501 in the network below.

PCS-1(SW version 3.41 without Data Solution Box*)

  |

Switching Hub -- MCU4501(SW version 4.2)

  |

C20(SW version TC4.2.1)

*PCS-1 needs Data Solution Box when it SENDS presentation data,

but it doesn't need whne it RECEIVES presentation data.

When we start presentation from C20, PCS-1 doesn't send video to its display.

MCU actually receives the packets from MCU, and send them to PCS-1.

On the connection information page of PCS-1, it seems to receive H.239 packet from a MCU4501.

Has anyone ever verified this interoperability?

Bit old post but seem you haven’t yet find an answer of this.

H.239 dual stream works between MCU4501 and PCS-1 without DSB.

However without DSB, PCS-1 can only handle 1 frame per second on dual stream channel.

This is for all resolutions as well so even if just VGA 640x480 it still can only handle 1fps.

So if dual stream content from C20 is large size, PCS-1 may take quite long time before dual stream video become available or become fully viewable on screen.

Also adding some packet loss into this will cause retransmitting key frame that makes even harder on getting viewable image on screen.

FYI, with DSB, PCS-1 capable to handle 5 frame per seconds up to VGA (1024 x 768) resolution, which probably makes bit faster to see the fully viewable dual stream image on screen (but very depend on image sending on dual stream channel).

Friend,

I don't know much about Sony video conference solutions, but I think you should do this:

  • Look for the Sony documentation to find any bug or known limitations on PCS-1
  • Upgrade your PCS-1 to the latest software version available
  • Try to change the PC resolution sent by C20, use resolutions less than XGA (1024x768, 800x600 and etc).

Also important you use newer software version as PCS-1 originally has several issue with H.239 feature connecting Cisco (ex-TANDBERG) endpoint as well as other 3rd party Endpoint.

I believe latest version is 3.42 and known 3.30 was working fine between Cisco Endpoint (tested several years ago…)

Thank you Taniguchi-san,

We tested the interoperability above as proposal demo on our customer site using their sony endpoints.

So we have no sony endpoints we can test for now.

We will try it if we have opportunity to test.

No problem then all.

I had interop test with Sony R&D team a while ago and confirmed usually take approximate 13~15 seconds before dual stream become available on PCS Endpoint side “with” DSB.

Without DSB does take longer compare than test with DSB.
