Tandberg TelePresence Experia troubleshooting experience

Hi colleagues!

Our company got a request to troubleshoot the Tandberg Experia system.

Customer complained on a communication lost problem. Touch Panel showed “No Communication” announcement. All the TV sets were in a standby mode.

When we opened the bottom TV segment I saw that Control unit doesn’t have any LED indication. We took out the amplifier to see where the power supplies the device. It was situated under the amplifier and looked like notebook switching adapter (power supply).

We moved it out and prepare the tester to measure the voltage. I took it back to lab and found the NetLinx Integrated Controller NI-3100 Specification.

There is:

ENVIRONMENTAL

  • Operating Temperature: 0° C      (32° F) to 50° C (122° F)
  • Operating Humidity: 20% to 85%      RH
  • Heat Dissipation (Typical):      36.9 BTU/hr

Air conditioning was not always switched on in a room, so being closed to NetLinx, power supply could get temperature more than 50°C (122° F).

Power Supply

INPUT VOLTAGE
100-240 +10% VAC

INPUT FREQUENCY
47-63 Hz

INPUT CURRENT

  • 1.2A MAX at 115 VAC + full load
  • 0.6A MAX at 230 VAC + full load

OUTPUT VOLTAGE
13.5 VDC

OUTPUT CURRENT
4.4A MAX

CONNECTORS
Mini 2-pin captive wire connector (3.5 mm)

ENVIRONMENTAL
Operating Temperature: 32°F to 104°F (0°C to 40°C)

In our case we got the other power supply inside.

We’ve measured the voltage, it was zero V. Old supply was burnt.

So we decided to change this supply on the other with higher current (3A to 4.16 A). New supply will live more due to a higher current. We had measured the voltage of a new power supply it was ~12V.

Action plan to prepare new power supply:

  • •1.      Take new PS.
  • •2.      Cut the cylindrical connector.
  • •3.      Define + and – (+ is in a white shield).
  • •4.      Remove 2-pin 3.5 mm mini-Phoenix (female) PWR connector (41-5025)

  • •5.      Suit Heat-shrinkable tubes on.
  • •6.      Attach PWR connector (41-5025).

After these actions I went to change supply. When I connected it LED lighted on normally and the booting process started the Experia. After we checked the sys on a videoconference call, but the other side was not able to listen us. I had checked the contacts with all the mics and it helped. Next test was successful.

Some opinions after experience with the system:

Advantages:

  • Centralized control.
  • Touch Panel.

Drawbacks:

  • The absence of a diagnostic tool.
  • Difficulties associated with the possibility of connecting the MXP codec separately from the system in case of an accident. (i did connection but wasn't able to see the opponent on the other side. The other side saw me).
  • Lack of administrative guides.

P.S. Please, if smb has admin guide, send it to me by e-mail or show the link.
