Telepresence Design Suggestion

Hello all,

Our sales team has suggested following component for video conference solution at one of our customer. I need to know how following components will integrate with each other for video conferencing

1- VCS Express

2- VCS Control

3- DX-650

4- Telepresence Server UCUCS-EZ-C240M3S (Optional)

5- CUCM 10.x

I was going through some documents & found that VCS Express will connect behind firewall (external network) & VCS Control would be on internal LAN.

Customer requirement is to enable video conferencing between two sites.

Do VCS Express, VCS Control and DX-650 with CUCM 10.0 are enough for Video Conferencing ?

What is the purpose of Telepresence Server UCUCS-EZ-C240M3S ?

What should be the bandwidth consideration for video conference calls between sites ?

Assuming the business case and requirments have already justified all the other comonents in the solution you stated. You would need to add the Cisco TelePresence Conductor in order to get the best and most effecient use of the TS with CUCM anf the DX650.

I cant find TelePresence Conductor in my BoQ:

How should i design solution (or connectivity) from items i do have ( assume we don't have TP Conductor) ?

DX650 would be my endpoint into CUCM, can we use it for VCS Control also ?

How many participants can join Video conference call in DX650 at a time ?

Virtual Telepresence Server (vTS) would require Conductor to function (it is permenately in remote managed mode, Cisco remote management solution is Conductor)

DX650 is for use on the CUCM only.  You would need something to host conferences on, either a Standalone MCU (8510, 5320, etc), TPS (8710 or 7010), or Conductor to utilze the vTS you already have.

Cisco TelePresence Conductor is ordered separately with these three options:

• R-VMCNDTRM-K9 (Mid-size deployment)
• L-CNDTR-UG-PAK (Upgrade from mid to full capacity)
• R-VMCNDTR-K9 (Full capacity)

Thanks, so I should order the part number TP-SMP-K9 to get it included with the license

before it was coming included with part number TP-PMP-K9 which is no more there

Exactly. TP-SMP-K9 is also an option that includes TelePresence Conductor.

Hi,

I am working on a project to install video conference calls. I have CUCM 10.x,imp 10.x, MX700,MX 300 , 8945 phones and jabber clients as the end points. Communication is working very well.

For the video conference calls , i  have installed two VTS with the TS screen x9 license. I have equally installed TC conductor  to support the conference bridges. I was meant to understand that  without the TC conductor license,the server capacity will be lmited to a standalone bridge

questions

1. what is a stand alone bridge ?

2. with the TS screen license x9 installed ,how many participants can join the conference ? Currently ,its only 4 screens  can i see. The fifth person ca join but his screen is black. I thought the Ts screen lcense x9 is for 9 participants

Because you have two TelePresence Servers, if you didn't have Conductor, each vTS would be independent of the other.  With Conductor, you can load balance the conferences between the two servers, as well as cascade a conference across the two servers, creating a large single conference.

The number of participants you can connect to depends on the quality defined within the conference template on Conductor as well as the server platform you're running, see Tables 6 thru 8 of the TelePresence Server Data Sheet.

thank you for your response. According to Telepresence conductor data sheet,it will not combine the two vts to create a large conference if its not licensed .is that correct? or the license key deprives you from having more than one conference

am getting this error when i try to add more than 4 participants

'Unable to create conferences as insufficient TelePresence Server license resource is available in pool'

Refer to the Conductor XC2.4 Release Notes to read about TelePresence Server cascading.

Screen licenses are consumed based on the quality of the conference template in Conductor, so if you want to connect up to 10 participants, you'll need to configure the conference template to a video and content quality that will use 1 screen license or less, for example:

720p30 video + 720p30 content = 1 screen license

720p30 video + 720p5 content = 1/2 screen license

Hi,

I have read the release notes but the document didn't give clue on the maximum number of resources that can be reserved on the primary bridge.

I think the picture on the screen license is getting clearer to me. The quality of the video content determines the screen for the participants. For instance, 10 participants can share one screen license cos they are in the same conference room while other participants in another room can share another screen license.

Each of my vts has TS screen license x9 which means I am entitled to 4 screen license for each and 8 screen licenses for both.

Since am using unlicensed TelePresence conductor, am only entitled to one bridge. So, do you think that the cascading of the VTS will work?in addition, am running 8vcore for vts

still battling with the issue.I cant add more than 4 participants . I have edited by conference template but to no avail.if i use full HD,the video will not display. if i set up the cascading, the video will not show. i informed you earlier that the Telepresence conductor is limited to a single standalone bridge when its not licensed.

The VTS  status is showing the following

Sorry I misread they part where you said Conductor wasn't licensed, in that  case, standalone means that you can only use one conference bridge and it must not be part of a cluster. 

I thought when you said you had 9 screen licenses, I thought that was per TelePresense Server. With 4 screen licenses per server, you should be able to have a conference with 10 participants if you set the conference template to 480p30 video + 730p5 content, or anything less than that. If you divide the number of available screen licenses, by the number of participants, the value you'll get is what will help determine the conference template quality you can use.
