Upgrade Behind the Firewall Endpoints from TMS

Hi,

We have 100's of Home Endpoints on Internet. (E20, 1700MXP, EX etc). All are in need of software upgrade now.

I know connection from TMS could not be established to any Endpoints behind Firewall.

So, we have planned to the upgrade manually.

But still want to check, is there a way automate this either through TMS software upgrade option or any other option.

Any practical solution is appreciated.

From what I can recall, since TMS doesn't have direct access to the endpoints to intiate the upgrade.  TMS tells the endpoints on boot when they contact TMS if they have an upgrade pending, which then tells the endpoints to start downloading the update and install it.  If the endpoints are configured in the Connection settings in TMS to be Behind Firewall, than TMS will know if you schedule those units to go through a software upgrade, it will postpone the schedule until it recieves a boot feedback from the endpoint to initiate the upgrade process.

Hello Rameez

Certainly you can use TMS for upgrade remote endpoints/behind the firewall. That is possible since version 11.5.

Please check this guide from page 15 onwards.

Re: Upgrade Behind the Firewall Endpoints from TMS

Patrick is right.

The reason why TMS waits until it gets a boot event before instructing the endpoint to upgrade: TMS won't know the call status of an endpoint behind a firewall (or NAT), and the only time TMS can be reasonably sure that it isn't in a call is when the endpoint just has booted.

Send the users an email with a link to the firmware and the description on how to use the webinterface to upgrade the system, most will be able to do this.

For the ones where it does not work out,  a remote help session or a technician on site might be the answer, ...

Anyhow, you could think of escalating the case to TAC if you do not get a better answer here and give us a feedback if there is one.

Hi All,

Upgrade went well for C series. But we are not able to be successful for E20's.

We are not able to see the boot event for E20's on TMS. WIll that be the case.

Glad that your C-Series unit was able to download and install the update!

Can you confirm that the E20 and C-Series units contain the same Provisioning/External Manager settings?

Yes, it is able to report back the Registration Status.

Also Settings from TMS are being pushed to that EP.

If TMS is not able to get a responce from the E20 to get the boot feedback, than it can't process the update.  Can you check to see what the connection settings in TMS are set to for that E20, make sure it is set to "Behind Firewall".

Yes Patrick - It is behind firewall.

I dont get a boot event for any of the E20's behind firewall. Is that a Bug.

Hi,

Tested the below.

TE1 doesn't generate a boot event at all.

TE4 does without issues. Any workaround available here to initiate upgrade..
