VCS Express with CUCM 10

Hello,

There are alot confusions about Express C/E & VCS C/E, can some one confirm my following queries:

With VCS Control & VCS Express all end points will register with VCS Control (No involvement of CUCM required or VCS control can not integrate with CUCM ) ?

With Expressway Core & Edge all end points will register into CUCM & CUCM will register Expressway Core ?

For B2B calls & Jabber movi we need to have Expressway Core/Edge, VCS Control/Express DOES NOT support jabber movi & B2B calls?

Express C/E & VCS C/E software are same but licenses are different ?

Our customer have got

1 x VCS Control licensed

1 x VCS Express licensed

1 x ISDN gateway,

1 x TP conductor

1 x TP Management Suit.

Yes, no CUCM is required, endpoints could also register to the VCS-E or it could proxy register SIP endpoints to the VCS-C. A parallel setup of VCS CUCM with a trunk should also work with todays versions.

The VCS will only support standards based SIP and H323 endpoints, its main purpose

was for Video endpoints. You will not be able to use it to register, provision or use Cisco IP phones with it.

With Expressway Core & Edge all end points will register into CUCM & CUCM will register Expressway Core ?

See the Expressway C&E as one unit to do external communication. Registrations are proxied

from the outside to CUCM.

But this also means, you can not register 3rd party endpoints to the expressway and even

Cisco endpoints need to support the Expressway C&E setup.

The  Expressway also handles things like XMPP for Jabber.

For B2B calls & Jabber movi we need to have Expressway Core/Edge, VCS Control/Express DOES NOT support jabber movi & B2B calls?

The Expressway C&E can also handle business2business calls or trunks to other sip / h323 infrastructure, but this requires the rich media license.

B2B calls will also work fine with a VCS setup.

If you talk about how to provide Jabber and Jabber Video accounts:

There is Jabber Video (which is provisioned via TMS and VCS) and there is Jabber (which is CUCM driven).

If you talk about calls from external parties these can just be seen as regular external b2b calls,

so they either way work with VCS or Expressways on the far end site.

Thats correct. The Expressway licensing is more appealing for CUCM users, but as you already

have VCSs in place that should work fine anyhow.

With CUCM you get the Expressway licenses anyhow. So depending on the kind of use you have,

b2b, internal calls ... you can add an Expressway setup for Jabber and Home office stuff and

use the VCS for B2B and 3rd party registrations.

Hello Martin,

Thank you so much for your replies, Its much clear.

We have got one conductor & telepresence server CTI-320-TS-K9 & ISDN Gateway too.

How above products will connect into network & these will work for video conferencing from basic ground design?

Will conductor register with CUCM & TelePresence Server & ISDN Gateway will register into conductor ?

As i mentioned above we have VCS control & express, is there any integration required between VCS(c/E) with conductor or telepresence server ? or should i consider that conductor & TP server works separate.
