Adding Multiple DC's to Unity 4.0 system

I have a unity 4.0 system and want to add multiple DC's to the unity server. On the unity server there appears to me a field to enter a 2nd DC but it is grayed out. I have done some research and it appears this is not a license issue.

Yep, that's where the DC/GC Reconnect Settings tool comes into play as I discussed.

Actually the DC/GC Reconnect Tool only allows you to configure the DC/GC that Cisco Unity's directory Monitors (AvDSAD and AvDSGlobalCatalog) use to synch with Active Directory.

In the situation you describe where messages are not delivered after a reboot of the DC, I have to assume the DC is also a GC, you would want to look at the GC that MAPI is using, not the DC/GC that the directory monitors are using.

See the following:

When GC is down, voicemail is not delivered

Hi,

If you're referring to the DC/GC Reconnect Settings tool, in order to cause the Manual Primary and Manual Secondary fields to become active, you need to uncheck "Enable Automatic server search functionality on reconnects for this domain". It'll then allow you to enter values into each field.

Hope that helps,

Brad

I was refering to the field in Unity. Any thoughts on that?

I'm not sure what you're referring to, can you be more specific?

I have multiple DC's. UNity is configured to point to one of them. When I reboot the DC that Unity points to messages are not delivered, MWI breaks, etc. Is there a way to define multiple dc's in unity or is that part of DC/GC reconnect settings tool?

If I am running a version eariler than supports dc/gc reconnect tool am i limited to one DC per unity box or is there a way to make registery changes to that unity points to multiple dc's?

The tool works with Unity version 4.0(4) and later:

Right but I am running a version eariler then 4.0(4). In that case am I limited to one DC or is there a way to define a 1st and 2nd DC.

Thank you for all the help!

Ah... yeah, you'll need to manually edit the registry:

While the unity server is sync'ing with the backup DC VM messages should still be delivered in a timely fashion to subscribers correct?

Sure, providing the DC/GC is reachable in a timely fashion, there should not be any interruption of service if all goes as planned with the switch to the backup.
