Asterisk (*) in Directory Number

Due major overlaps in our dialplan I am thinking about using the asterisk (*) going forward to preface our telephone Directory Numbers in Call Manager. Would this work ok with Unity for things like MWI or Alternate Extensions?

Thanks!

No. * and # cannot be part of an extension.

Oh well, it was a thought...any chance of a future advanced setting that would allow the use of a *?

I wonder if I could still use it in the CCM DN and mask it when a call is sent to Unity. Have to try it in the lab.

No, not much chance of this since # acts as a terminator when entering a string of digits (it's stripped off before being processed regardless). * is an exit code that can work the same way - it would be a major under taking to update all tools, conversations, components and DB procs to account for these characters as part of an extension.
