There is a scenario in our network wherein phones connected to Vegastream gateway and registered as Third party SIP phones in the unified call manager are experiencing huge noise while communicating with cisco 7985 video phones while on other cisco phone models both ways speech is fine. What could be teh possible reason behind and how to troubleshoot it?

With the information available, it is difficult to say what is causing this issue. The place to start would be to see what is the codec being used for both the calls. You might want to check if the codecs being used are the same.

codec used by ip phones is g711.

there is a media capability set in AVG in which different codec progiles like g711 g729 are specificed .

When a media capability set having only g711 is given, call is established successfully but when a

media capability set having g711 and  g729 are given, calls  are getting very noisy.

Hi,

There will always be a quality difference when using g729 compared to g711. g711 uses more bandwidth compared to g729, therefore if you had a network issue, you would have seen it first on g711 calls. By doing less compression the quality of the call is always better. Is there a way for you to span the port to which the phone is connected and do a network capture ? Once that is done, wireshark gives you an option to extract audio from it. If you could capture the same and share it, it could help understand if there is a noise being introduced or not.
