Best way to migrate from Octel to Unity Connection

Looking to upgrade from octel to unity connection, and we want to move the voicemails stored on octel to Unity Connection.

Is there a way via the DB's to do this?

Potentially Forward the voicemail from Octel to Unity Connection?

Just record all the voicemails as audio files?

Leave Octel running and use Unity Connection for new messages?

Let me know your thoughts.

Re: Best way to migrate from Octel to Unity Connection

Hi,

From a technical standpoint, hopefully the Octel side supports VPIM networking and you can accomplish the migration that way.  Possibly someone out here has actually done it and can share their experience.  Here's the design document explaining the migration information:

Hope that helps,

Re: Best way to migrate from Octel to Unity Connection

Hi "K",

Just to add a couple of notes to the great info from my friend Brad (+5 Mr."B")

We have spent a considerable amount of time doing this exact migration from

an Octel Overture 250 to CUC 7.1.

After much searching, researching and "due diligence" we did NOT find any

good method to move messages over. The decision was made to leave the Octel running

with user mailboxes for 2 monthes after the cut-over for users to still have have access to "old"

messages. If people had critical messages (from Loved ones or for legal reasons) they forwarded

them to a specified mailbox and we archived off .wav files for them. Try to keep this down

to a dull roar if at all possible

Use the Report Option from Octel to help generate a user mailbox report which can be modified

into a .csv for Unity Connection BAT/create users with Mailboxes. I could go on and on;

Turn off MWI resync if you have users set up on both UC and Octel for any period of time
or you will have UC turning of the Octel MWI lamps overnight

Create a Transfer direct to VM for CUC for users who are used to a similar Octel feature (attached)

Cheers! And best of luck.

Re: Best way to migrate from Octel to Unity Connection

I've done many voicemail migrations and have worked with Octel in the past for quite some time as well.  Honestly, the cleanest thing to do is to implement CUC and migrate users over to it.  Then leave the Octel up and running for a finite period of time so users can access old messages stored there, if needed.  Octel stores messages in a proprietary format so attempting to record them in a format compatible with another VM system (of any kind) would be an intricate, if not, extremely tedious and would likely require 3rd-party specialized tools to do so.  I've not seen any tools for Octel that can do that...I've seen some tools that looked interesting and offered some neat feature enhancements for Octel, but never a tool that can convert the proprietary formatted voicemails to say .wav or .mp3 (pick a format).
