bridge upgrade feature 6.1(2) to 8.0(3)a

I'm trying to use the 8.x bridge upgrade feature to migrate from 6.1(2) to 8.0(3)a on UCS.

My plan was to only upgrade the publisher, switch version, take a DRS backup and switch version backup.  But I'm getting a DRS error when trying to run the backup with the following:

Failed to initiate backup. Unable to start backup because there are no local agents

connected. This may be due to Master or Local Agent being down.

I've tried restarting DRS local and master agent and regenerating the ipsec certificate without any luck.

So the question is do all nodes need to be upgraded to 8.0(3)a for a DRS backup to work or should upgrading the publisher be sufficient?
