Calls answer to speaker when handset is picked up?

Why would calls answer to speaker if the headset is picked up to take the call? So when a user receives a call, the user picks up the handset but the call is answered on the speaker phone? Auto Answer is not on. What could cause this?

Could be a firmware issue.  What phone model are you using and what is the firmware version being used?

Hi,

Is this happening to one phone or all phones.

I have seen some TAC case and RMA was the solution. Please see with TAC and check if it is hardware problem.

Hi Justin,

This is almost certainly a hardware problem with the Hookswitch as Ronak nicely noted (+5). After deploying Cisco IP Phones for the last few years we (and many others) have found this to be the most common hardware problem. There is a "Best Practice" for cleaning the Hookswitch contacts (link below) that does work "sometimes" . Usually the phone has to be replaced/RMA'd.

If you don't have smartnet on the phone here are the parts to fix this

From this interesting Tech note;
