Cant retrieve Expired Messages on Unity Express

I have run into a senario where a user was away for 6 weeks during which time the mailbox filled up and messages expired. When they came back to work they had 19 expired messages. Time and date stamps and caller information was present however the messages were blank.

Are these messages retrievable or have they been somehow deleted?

We tried saving the messages (15 of which) but when we log back into the Unty the envelope information is their but no message.

The messages should not have been deleted unless the user deleted them after listening to them. Are you sure the messages weren't just hangups? How long of a duration were they? If they were saved then they should have been accessible as new messages in the user's mailbox.

Can you issue the command sh voicemail detail mailbox  for the user and post it?
