Cisco Unity Connection 7 with Office 365

Hoping anyone can help me.

We are currently running an older Unity Connection 7 system.  We have just recently made the move to Office 365 and have decommissioned our exchange servers ( we had 2 servers for 3 domains ).  Part of our configuration included an Ironport appliance and since we are no longer hosting our email that system is no longer required.

The difficlutly is that our current unity system is using the Ironport as the Smart Host and when we shut the Ironport down voicemail was no longer routing to our users emails.

Has anyone made the move to Office 365 using an older Unity like us that could give some direction?

Does Unity need to access a Smart Host?  Does Unity have the ability to direct send?

We are a small business and do not have the engineer who configured our system available to us.

Hoping to get some input from the vast knowledge on these forums.

Thanks

To access and synchronize

To access and synchronize messages with Office 365 directly, Unified Messaging has to be configured. This feature is only available with CUC 8.5 and higher. Now to use Office 365 Wave 15, you need to be on 8.6(2) ES 71 or higher ( This ES is available in 8.6(2) SU4). You can upgrade your servers to the latest version of 8.6(2a) or 9.x or 10.x.

If you need to only relay the message, you need a Smart Host that can relay the message. The same configuration you have on your 7.x system.

Relay voicemail via email is

Relay voicemail via email is all we are looking to accomplish.  I have entered the Smarthost for our Office365 account that we had to create.

Article here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn554323(v=exchg.150).aspx

Our Unity system isn't configured for DNS so I simply used the IP for our newly created Smarthost and all is working now.

Yay!
