Cisco Unity Connection Upgrade From 8.5(1) to 8.6(2a)

Hello Team,

I am in the process of working out the details for an upcoming upgrade for one our client's Unity Connection HA environment. Their current CUCM and Unity Connection respective versions is 8.5 (1). CUCM will remain as 8.5(1) for now. The exact version of CUC is 8.5.1ES47.12900-47 Unrestricted. After doing some research online I have confirmed that I could upgrade from the CUC current version to either 8.5(1)SU4 or 8.6(2a). The current server specs are below. I checked the hardware compatibility matrix and also confirmed that 8.6 (2a) is supported by this platform.

HW Platform      : 7835H2

Processors        : 1

Type              : Family: Xeon

CPU Speed        : 2333

Memory            : 6144 MBytes

Object ID        : 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.1.584

OS Version        : UCOS 4.0.0.0-44

2 HD: 146GB each

Are there any caveats you think I may be overlooking? If so, could you please advise? I have installed 8.6(2a) from scratch and so far seems to be pretty stable so this is the reason I would like to go to 8.6 instead of 8.5.

Thank you,

Gerson

8.6 has been out for a while and has proven to be stable. I would definitely go with it.

Re: Cisco Unity Connection Upgrade From 8.5(1) to 8.6(2a)

Hi Gerson,

One thing to note is that the move to 8.6 does include some new

processes that are reflected in the "Refresh Upgrade" name that

has been given to this path

Check out this great doc from Saurabh for the refresh upgrade notes for the step to 8.6.

This Refresh Upgrade will also apply to your CUCM 8.6 final step when you move there;

https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/collaboration-voice-video/unified-comm-application/blog/2011/08/11/checklist-before-upgrading-to-unity-connection-86

Here is a clip from the CUCM release notes for 8.6 that describe part of the process

just as an FYI. I do fully agree with Chris here (+5) that the move to 8.6 is the preferred

build for CUCM/CUC. This upgrade will be longer than a move to 8.5.

When  you install 8.6 upgrade software, there will be a temporary server  outage

while the CUCM software is installed.Once you kick off the  upgrade using either

the command line or graphical user interface the  data will be exported,

and the system will be automatically rebooted at  which point the server

outage will begin. The duration of this outagewill depend on your

configuration and amount of data. During the  upgrade, progress

can be monitored via the consoleuntil such time that  command line

interface and graphical user interface access has been  restored.

Once restored, you can use the command line interface or  graphical

user interface to continue to monitor upgrade progress.

Cheers!

Rob
