CUCM 7 - unable to dial voice mail only extension

For CUCM 7 how do you setup a voice mail only extension? Example. alias 2037 in Call Manager is setup with out any device association. When I go to import into Unity, it doesnt find the alias. So I tried setting up voice mail only for 2037 in unity. however, i can not dial 2037. It says call can not be completed. Any ideas on this would be helpful.

Thank You,

Gary,

What version of Unity? Unity Connection? How are you importing users? Please provide a little more detail and we should be able to figure out what you're trying to do.

Re: CUCM 7 - unable to dial voice mail only extension

Cisco Unity Connection Administration

Cisco Unity Connection version: 7.0.1.10000-323

Importing by simply selecting "Import Users". Nothing shows up. In the past I had to assign the alias to a phone before it would allow me to import into Unity, however this person does not have a phone and there should be a way in which i can add an alias with out assiging to a dummy device....

EDIT : If i dial *2037 I can get into the voice mail.. but i want it to work for just dialing 2037

If you're doing AXL imports from CUCM it is required that the End Users have a primary extension assigned to their user account or they will not show up available for import.

As for your dialing, are you trying to just go off-hook and dial 2037 and ring the phone, and let it RNA to voice mail and this isn't working?

What i would like is; If a user dials 2037 for it to go straight to voice mail. I did not want to assign the 2037 alias to a device. If I do not have a phone device for the alias how do i get them associated with some device that will allow me to import into voice mail?

You can simply create a user on Unity Connection, there is no requirement that you need to import users from CUCM.

Adding Cisco Unity Connection Accounts Individually

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/user_mac/guide/7xcucmac080.html

Creating User Accounts from LDAP User Data

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/user_mac/guide/7xcucmac105.html

Creating Multiple User Accounts from Cisco Unified Communications Manager Users

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/7x/user_mac/guide/7xcucmac100.html

Sounds like you're using the AXL import option. If you don't want to have to assign a user a primary DN, then you will have to pursue another method of importing the users (either individually creating them or in bulk, or from LDAP).

If you simply dial 2037, do you want it to UC user 2037's personal greeting? If that's what you're referring to, then you'll need to have 2037 somewhere in CUCM (whether it be a CTI Route Point, a phone, or some other entity that CFA to the UC voice mail pilot). From there, UC will recognize the CFA for DN 2037 and play the greeting (assuming you've created a UC user with extension 2037).

I would suggest reading through the Creating a Call Management Plan:

Nah, no design chart needed... I did not know you could assign the users to a CTI routing point.. Once I did that my problem was resolved.
