CUE can only leave VM when called internally not external

Can someone please help with this? I am running CME 4.0(1) and CUE 2.2.2. If you call an externsion internally you get forwarded to their voicemail box correctly but if you call the same number externally it says there is not a voicemail box setup for this extension? Any ideas? Many thanks

What do you have configured under the telephony-service in CME? Is there a dialplan pattern? Something in CME is almost certainly translating the forwarded number so something different is presented to CUE in the two call flow scenarios. You can collect a 'debug ccsip mess' and look at the INVITE message in both scenarios (as the call is being forwarded) to see what's happening.
