Exchange Clstr with 5500 users(UM&VMO)

Looking to get some clarity on a statement in the design guide.

Environment is 5500 subscribers in VMO&UM configurations, an off-box message store(exchange 2003 cluster).

Given what the design guide says can the off-box store be one exchange server with two different stores, or is the requirement that off-box store be two distinctly different exchange server with their own stores?

"For example, given the maximum Voice Messaging limitation of 7,500 subscribers for a single Cisco Unity server, at least two off-box message stores are required. This means that at a minimum, three servers are necessary to support this number of subscribers. If it is necessary to support more than 7,500 subscribers, a dedicated domain controller is required."

When it speaks of a message store, it is speaking of a server, not an Exchange message store. Please take a look at the following link for further clarification. It gives examples of message store server specifications and the number of users they can support.

Thanks for the reply. I get that part of it, but since Cisco won't describe mailstore scaling limitations, and Microsoft does comes out and say how many boxes can be mapped to a store, only concurrent connections. Is there a ratio of how many subscriber can reside on a server/mailstore, or that just an exercise in Exchange site planning?

Table 1 in the link in my previous post gives user limitations for an off box message store based on a given server configuration and whether or not you will use IMAP clients.
