Import problems--Subscriber originally on other Unity server

We have a user who's AD account was originally associated with a unity 3.1 server in another site. The user was removed correctly from the 3.1 server, but when we attempt to import the account into the 4.0.3 server in the new site, the import fails with a "Unrecognized error 0x80070005 has occurred. The new subscriber was not imported.

When you attempt to remove the unity attributes using bunnykill or GSM, it doesn't show any unity attributes on the user. The user can be imported to the 4.0.3 server using GSM, and it looks like it imports correctly, but the user doesn't show up in unity via the web admin interface.

Is there a 'lower level' tool to clean a user, or is something else going on?

Hi -

That sounds like a permissions issue to me. When the ConFigMgr wizard was run on your Unity 4.0(3) server, was it given permissions to import users from the information store server that holds the user's inbox? Is the user's account in a different AD domain than your 4.0(3) server? Something to check - does the Unitymsgstoresvc account have SEND/RECEIVE and Administer Information Store permissions in Exchange for the user?
