Migrate on-box Exchange 2K to off-box Exchange 2003

We are running Unity 4.1(1) in voice mail only mode. Exchange 2000 was installed on the Unity box for an on-box store.

We have since installed Exchange 2003 off box and have moved all the user mailboxes to the new Exchange server and everything works fine.

I would like to de-implement the on-box Exchange 2000 server soon.

From what I understand the steps necessary are as follows:

1. Uninstall Exchange 2000 from the Unity box

2. Install Exchange 2003 system tools onto the Unity box

3. Run the permissions wizard

4. Run the config wizard to partner with the new 2K3 server

Is step 3 (run the permissions wizard) necessary as nothing has really changed except the partner mail server?

Thanks!

Todd

yes, it could be necessary - all your users are there but the special Unity mailbox (used for a number of purposes but primarily as the guy we send all outside caller messages from) is still parked on your 2000 server I suspect - it's best to stick to the steps QA and pubs have tested in house.
