Move subscriber from Unity 4 to Unity 7 Exchange 2007

We have a customer want to upgrade their Exchange to 2007 , currently they have Unity 4.2 Unified messaging with exchange 2003.

Since they bought new servers, customer wants to know if we install a new Unity 7.x server with same Exchange 2003 partner server as Unity 4.x and want to know if there are any issues

1. On Unity server if they move subscriber from Unity 4.x to 7.x. I think we can do this with digital networking and GSM without any impact to users correct?.

2. On Exchange side later when they move the same MBX from Exchange 2003 to 2007 will there be any impact to subscriber.Do we have to do anything on Unity ?

Both Exchange will be on same AD, same exchange domain.

Thank you so much for your help.

Bala,

1. Yes, you can network the Unity servers and use GSM to move the subscribers. It's also helpful to use COBRAS after moving the subscribers to migrate additional subscriber info.

2. See the following link for reconfiguring Unity for Exchange 2007.

Hope this helps.

Brandon,

Thanks for the quick response, do we have to reconfigure Unity for Exchange 2007 when they are ready to move their MBX from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2007 ?

or can we do it at the end when they move all the mailboxes to Exchange 2007?

Thanks again,

Bala

According to the link posted above, you can wait to reconfigure Unity until all users are on Exchange 2007 and you plan to change the partner Exchange server to the 2007 server. However, the caveat is that you cannot decommission your existing Exchange 2003 server until the reconfiguration is complete.

Hope this helps.

Brandon

That answers our concern during the migration process.

Thanks for your help again Brandon.
