mpls qos

Hi Guys

We have a customer with ccm in mumbai and ipphones in mumbai, calcutta and banglore. The signalling happens through the mpls link. They have mpls routers at premises but under the provider support. They have voice gateways in if anybody who calls from mumbai ip phone or banglore ip phone there is bad voice quality as in drop of packets at banglore and calcutta. The same workd finr for calls from mumbai to the same number.Calls made from mumbai to calcutta, mumbai to banglore works fine.Since the router where qos is applied is not under the customer but isp suport and we have no access to it.Also they have their lan connected to mpls router at respective place. Is there a freeware monitoring tool which could let me know the jitters happening on the part of network? So the isp could be given the data.

Re: mpls qos

Hi Ganesh

You can ask the respective ISP for the jitter reports for the respective COS being provided to the customer and also you can ask for the utilisation on COS basis..

Re: mpls qos

Hi Kumar

Thanks for the reply. But the isp believes its a problem from the lan side.So i wanted to run some monitoring sofware/tools and do some pilot testings so that we could give them the report saying that there is jitter/drop from there end.Is there a tool or a probe for free which could indicate packet drop place in the transmission to the voice gateway to chicago.

Re: mpls qos

You can use IP SLA to mointor Jitter if your IOS supports it. Thresholds can be set and logs can be sent to NMS (cisco works, concor ehealth etc) if they same has been violated.

HTH, rate if it does
