MWI Issues CCME & CUE

Level 1

I have two phones setup as reception phones and they are setup as followed.

Phone.1 Dual Line

Has extension 8903 as primary line and 8900 as a shared secondary line with phone2

phone 2 dual line

has extension 8902 on primary and a shared line of 8900 with phone 1.

they have a group voicemail between on 8900 but also there own voicemail on the primary extensions.

The problem is when a voicemail is there the light does not display to state voicemail.

is it possible for MWI to work in this case and if not is there a workaround for this ?

see config below.

Hi Chris,

With CUE this can't be changed and is one of the drawbacks of using a Group or GDM Mailbox :(

General delivery mailbox (GDM) This mailbox is assigned to a group of subscribers. All members in the group have access to the mailbox. When a caller leaves a message in this mailbox, **no MWI is turned on**. Instead, when a member logs in to the personal mailbox, the mailbox menu allows the member to access the messages in each GDM to which the member belongs. Only one person can access the GDM at a time. After the first person saves or deletes a message in the GDM, the message is no longer played as "new" for any subsequent members.

From this CUE doc;

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps5520/products_administration_guide_chapter09186a00806f11ef.html

You can setup the following for Group Mailboxes;

Enabling Message Notification for a Subscriber or Group

Before configuring message notification on a device for a subscriber or group, enable the message notification capability for the subscriber or group.

Starting in Cisco Unity Express configuration mode, use the following command to enable message notification:

voicemail notification owner owner-id enable

where owner-id is the username of the subscriber or groupname of the group that requires the message notification capability.

The following example enables message notification for the subscriber user5 and the group sales:

se-10-0-0-0# config t

se-10-0-0-0(config)# voicemail notification owner user5 enable

se-10-0-0-0(config)# voicemail notification owner sales enable

se-10-0-0-0(config)# end

se-10-0-0-0#

These notifications can be sent to the following devices:

Cell phone

Home phone

Work phone

Numeric pager

Text pager

E-mail inbox

Also, have you tried just setting up a standard mailbox (rather than Group) for 8900?

Hope this helps!

Rob

hi,

thanks for the reply.

if we do that and setup as a standard instead of group can both extensions access 8900 voicemail then?

Hi Chris,

I can't test this right now, but I think it should work but will only give the Envelope icon not MWI Lamp because 8900 is not the Primary number on the phones. Because this is the Main Number you may want to make it the Primary (Button 1 ) on at least one of the two Reception phones just because of this parameter.

Let us know,

Rob

I agree with Rob on this one.

if the 8900 number appears on the second line on teh IP phone it wont give you the MWI lamp on the phone, just an envelope appearing next to the label on the phone.

Most instals ive done with this kind of scenario, the client has prefered to have message notifications via email for a GDM, and they have a dedicated user who picks up the messages from the GDM.

hope this helps

hi

thanks for the response.

I looked at the mwi config and noticed you need a mwi on and mwi off extension number programmed.

does this mean that you need to dial the mwi extension for it to work or do you need a wildcard to make it work automatically

exmaple

mwi on

number 8000....

where .... represents that the normal extension length is 4 digits long.

i am confused on the config for mwi.
