Presence Server Upgrade

alalli
Level 2
Level 2

Hi All,

I have a  CUPS running code 80.2.

When I run show hardware, it show that I have a 7825I4.

The closest thing I can find in the hardware compatibility list is the 7825-I4-IPC1 which would require a "bridged upgrade"

I then looked up 'bridged upgrade'

From the way I understand it,  I need to purchase new hardware in order to run version 8.6 in my environment.

The bridged upgrade allows me to use a DRS backup to restore the old config somehow????

Is this correct please?

Thank you very much for any help.

Regards,

Amanda Lalli-Cafini

Note

For Release 8.0(1), Cisco Unified Presence does not support MCS-xxxx-I1-IPC1 or MCS-xxxx-H1-IPC1servers. However, a bridged upgrade is available to customers who need to migrate from any of the discontinued hardware to supported hardware.

Legend for Table 1:

Blank cell—server is not supported

X—server is supported for production use

B—server is only supported for a bridged upgrade

Hi

A bridge upgrade is more or less as you say. The idea is that you can upgrade, then create a backup of the new version.

That way on your new hardware you can go straight to the new 8.6 version, and restore that backup - it's designed to work around scenarios where the old build disc for the old version won't build the new server (as it doesn't have the correct hardware drivers etc) and then new version can't run on the old servers.

In your case, the compatibility doc lists the upgrade a X,B(1). Note (1) says that if you have <4gb it's not supported. So you just need to upgrade your server's memory to get support for 8.6.

Aaron
